With an area of approx. 75.000 m² the Augarten Park Graz – located right next to the river Mur – is one of the most important urban open spaces of the city. It has several meadows, avenues and playgrounds which have been delighting visitors of all ages since the beginning of the 20th century.
In the recent years the playgrounds in the Augarten Park Graz underwent a major work over. The planning was preceded by a participatory process in which children and adolescents aged 9-17 years worked out their ideas and wishes in workshops and presented them in models. Thus, the planners had a complementary tool at hands to filter out what matters most to children and teenagers in “their” park.
The children’s play area is structured by sections for different age groups:
- Toddler play area: There’s a wobbling tub, seesaw animals, wooden animals and a children’s slide. In this area toddlers can make experiences with different materials (sand, gravel) and climb various equipment.
- Large sand and water play area: Pirate ship, dinghy, jetties and lighthouse animate to group games.
- Jungle landscape: Sea Jungle, Mikado (Balance Beam), Carousel, Nest Swing, Hammock, Treehouse. The focus for this part lies on giving children the feeling of adventure.
- Grass clearing areas: Room for free play and seating is offered. Giant swings and jumping plates complete the offer.
The children’s museum FRrida & freD is situated right next to the park.
