The headquarters of the Viennese professional fire brigade offers free tours at the firefighting museum Vienna. Founded in 1685, it is the oldest professional fire brigade in the world. While the firefighters move out on the ground floor, the world of firefighters opens in the museum – called the Feuerwehrmuseum – on the first floor. Here you experience the history of the professional fire brigade. Follow the development of fire fighting through eight rooms in an exciting way. The museum shows the development from the medieval firefighters with their wooden box syringes to today’s emergency personnel with modern high-tech equipment.
The firefighting museum Vienna features firefighting vehicles from 1903 till now
Remarkable and tragic events from the history of Vienna, such as the fire of the Ringtheater, the fire of the Rotunda or the Palace of Justice, are also illuminated. The stock ranges from horse-drawn vehicles over the first automobile fire engine from 1903 to vehicles of the 1970s. Documents, historical uniforms, pictures and devices vividly illustrate the centuries-long history of the fire brigade. Parents and children learn a lot about the current profession of firefighters.
In addition to the former uniforms, magnificent helmets and old equipment, parents and children can marvel at the faithful replica of the Türmerstube in St. Stephan or the numerous vehicle models in the Fire Brigade Museum in Vienna.
