The Hilmteich in Graz on the edge of the Leech Forest is one of the most popular destinations of the city because of its varied range of leisure activities. The area is especially beautiful from late spring to late autumn. During the warm season you can rest on one of the benches around the small lake or put a picnic blanket on one of the meadows. From here you can comfortably watch the hustle and bustle on and around the lake. Large hammocks under shady trees are ideal for relaxing. A children’s playground for the little ones is also available here. The most famous building on Hilmteich with a long past is the Hilmteichschlössl. There is a Café & Restaurant inside. The garden terrace overlooking the lake invites you to sit down and enjoy the view while enjoying a drink.
Right besides the lake in Leech Forest there is a climbing park. You can choose between seven routes on different heights and with different levels of difficulty. It’s an exciting climbing experience for children, teenagers and adults alike. Take note that children must be 110 cm tall to play here. Because safety is a big issue here, a fee-based training is required before the first use of the climbing park.
How to get to Hilmteich in Graz
The stop “Hilmteich” on tram line 1 is only a few meters away from the entrance and is thus a convenient and environmentally friendly way to get to the lake in the east of Graz. Parking is available in this area along the Hilmteichstraße. But especially on weekends it can happen that you can not get a parking space by car right near the pond. The cycle path HR5 leads past the Hilmteich.
