Beautiful shores, deep blue water and the picturesque castle ruin Lichtenfels – the wonderful lake Ottenstein in Lower Austria is definitely worth a trip. The 60-meter-deep lake is surrounded by forrest and large granite rocks. In small bays you will find idyllic shores, sandy coves and other hidden places that are reminiscent of Scandinavian fjord landscapes. Here you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing bathing day, even in the heat of summer. Make sure to explore the castle ruin Lichtenfels. Built in 1159 its remains are still very impressive and can be visited for free.
At lake Ottenstein you can also rent boats at the terrace café. This makes it easy to explore the small bays and islands on the lake. You can choose from several boat types. Kayaks are for two people, pedal and rowing boats can fit in up to four adults plus some bags. Less exhausting is the ride on a boat with electric motor. They allow the exploration of the untouched landscape without any muscle power. If you do not want to go boating yourself, you can take the opportunity to visit the lake with the excursion ship MS Ottenstein. The excursion boat travels at irregular times whenever at least 15 people have registered an interest. The round trip takes about half an hour and leads to particularly beautiful places around the lake.
